  1. Eustache Deschamps

    Eustache Deschamps (1346-1406) was a medieval French poet. Born at Vertus, in Champagne, he received lessons in versification from Guillaume de Machaut and later studied law at Orleans University. He then traveled through Europe as a diplomatic messenger for Charles V. His estate was pillaged by the English, in consequence of which he continuously abuses them in his many poems. Deschamps wrote as many as 1,175 ballades, and he is sometimes credited with inventing the form.

    Émile de Saint-Amand Deschamps was a French poet. He was born at Bourges. Deschamps was one of the chiefs of the Romantic school. To further the cause of romanticism he founded with Victor Hugo "La Muse Française" (1824), a journal to which he contributed verses and stories signed "Le Jeune Moraliste." Four years afterward he collected and published "Etudes française et étrangères" (1828), consisting of poems and translations.
