    James Strom Thurmond was an American politician who served as governor of South Carolina and as a United States Senator. He also ran for the presidency of the United States in 1948 under the segregationist States Rights Democratic Party banner. He garnered 39 electoral votes in that race, making him the first third party presidential candidate to receive electoral votes since Robert LaFollette in 1924.

    Wayne Lyman Morse was a United States Senator from Oregon from 1945 until 1969. He made a filibuster for 22 hours and 26 minutes in 1953 protesting the Tidelands Oil legislation, which at the time was the longest filibuster in Senate history. Morse was born to a farming family in Verona, Wisconsin, who imbued the political beliefs of Robert M. LaFollette, Sr. in their children.

    William Carl "Bill" Meier (born 1940) is an attorney and a former member of the Texas State Senate from Hurst in Tarrant County, who holds the world filibuster record in a legislative body. In May 1977, near the close of the regular session, Meier spoke for forty-three hours against a worker's compensation bill that he considered "anti-business" in scope. His activity blocked the bill from being considered in the waning hours of the session.

    Samuel Kemper (?-1814) was an American adventurer and filibusterer. Born in Fauquier County, Virginia, Kemper was involved with his brothers in the 1804 rebellion in West Florida. He later participated in the 1812-13 Gutiérrez-Magee Expedition into Spanish Texas, becoming commander of the American contingent in February 1813. He defeated the Spanish in several battles, but eventually withdrew from the expedition when he lost confidence in the Mexican leaders.

He was appointed second lieutenant in the Marine Corps from New York, on 5 April 1858. During that year he was stationed at the Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., and at Brooklyn, New York. While on duty in Brooklyn he served in the 1858 quarantine riots at Staten Island, New York.

  26. José Antonio Mexía

    José Antonio Mexía was a 19th-century Mexican politician. He claimed to have been born in Xalapa, Veracruz, but contradicting contemporary reports say he was a native of Cuba.
