    John Maclean MA (24 August 1879- 30 November 1923) was a leftist Scottish politician. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland into a family of Highland origin from the Isle of Mull. Maclean became a school teacher and then attended the University of Glasgow, graduating with a Master of Arts degree (Maclean always used MA after his name when being published thereafter). Maclean is viewed as one of the leading figures of the Red Clydeside era.

    Werner Karl Heisenberg was a celebrated German physicist and Nobel laureate, one of the founders of quantum mechanics, and acknowledged to be one of the most important physicists of the twentieth century. He was born in Würzburg, Germany and died in Munich. Heisenberg was the head of German nuclear energy project, though the nature of this project, and his work in this capacity, has been heavily debated.

  13. Paul Dirac

    Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac, OM, FRS (August 8, 1902 - October 20, 1984) was a British theoretical physicist and a founder of the field of quantum mechanics. He held the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and spent the last ten years of his life at Florida State University. Among other discoveries, he formulated the so-called "Dirac equation," which describes the behavior of fermions and which led to the prediction of the existence of antimatter.

  14. William Kraft

    William Kraft (born 1923, in Chicago, Illinois) is a composer, conductor, teacher, and percussionist. From 1981-85, Kraft was the Composer-in-Residence for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Kraft was a member of the Philharmonic for 26 years: the first 8 years as a percussionist, and the remaining 18 as principal timpanist. Kraft was also the conductor of the orchestra for 3 seasons. Kraft has composed over 100 pieces, many for percussion solo or featuring percussion.

    Alice Eastwood (1859 in Toronto, Canada - October 30 1953 in San Francisco, California) is considered an American botanist, since her life after age 14 was in the USA. From age twenty to thirty, she was a teacher in Denver, Colorado and taught herself botany. In 1890 she assumed a post in the herbarium at the California Academy of Sciences. Eastwood was given a position as joint Curator of the Academy with Katherine Brandegee in 1892.
