- George Masa
George Masa (1881? - June 21, 1933), born Masahara Izuka, was a Japanese businessman and professional large format photographer. Masa arrived in the United States in 1901. In 1915, he settled in Asheville, North Carolina, where he would spend the final 18 years of his life. After initially working for the Grove Park Inn as a bellhop and valet, Masa left the inn to take a position as a photographer. - Masa

Dan Tsalka was an Israeli writer. Dan Tsalka was born in 1936 in Warsaw. In World War II his family fled to the Soviet Union, where they lived in Siberia and then Kazakhstan. At the close of the war, when he was ten, he returned with his family to Poland, to the city of Wrocław. He studied humanities at the city's university, engaging in boxing, an activity that appeared later in the novel "Gloves". In 1957 he immigrated to Israel in the "Gomułka Aliyah". - Shulamith Hareven
Shulamith Hareven (1930 - November 25, 2003) was an Israeli author and essayist. She was born in Warsaw, Poland, to a Zionist family. She immigrated to the Land of Israel with her parents in 1940. At 17 she joined the Haganah, serving as a combat medic in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, in the siege of Jerusalem.
