  1. Kascha Papillon

    Kascha Papillon (born Allison Kainoaani Chow on December 8 1967 in Mililani, Hawaii) is a Chinese American former porn star. She was frequently billed simply as Kascha. She was billed as being of mixed descent (half Chinese and half Swedish), and was known for her East Asian features and contrasting blonde hair. Contrary to popular belief, Kascha had little or no European heritage and was of primarily Asian ancestry.

  2. John Papillon

    John Ashton Papillon (19th century) was a British photographer and Royal Engineer who was commissioned to accompany and photographically document the Anglo-French military expedition to northern China during the Second Opium War in 1860. Papillon produced images taken from between Canton and the Taku Forts but became ill and was evacuated on 29 September 1860 before completing his mission.

    Henri Charrière was a convicted felon chiefly known as the author of "Papillon", a memoir of his incarceration in a penal colony on French Guiana.

  4. Louis Dega

    Louis Dega was a prisoner in the French Guiana penitentiary as of 1932 (convicted on fraud for fifteen years) and companion of Henri Charrière, AKA "Papillon" for thirteen years. He had a younger brother named Joseph. Dega and Papillon had previously met before embarking to South America, and made a deal where Dega paid Papillon for protection. The two became best friends during their sentence.

    Dar Allen Robinson (March 26, 1947 - November 21, 1986) was a film stuntman and film actor. Dar Robinson grew up in Los Angeles, California. Dar broke 9 world records and made 21 "worlds firsts." He invented the decelerator (use of dragline cables rather than airbags for stunts that called for a jump from high places,) which allowed a cameraman to film a top-down view of the stuntman as he fell without accidentally showing the airbag on the ground.

    Charles Brunier was a convicted murderer and French veteran of both the First and Second World Wars who claimed, in 2005, to have been the inspiration for "Papillon". Circumstantial evidence, including his butterfly tattoo and his having been on Île du Diable at the time, supports the claim. Brunier served in Syria in 1918 and was wounded in action. However, in 1923 he was accused of murder and armed robbery, and later convicted.
