    Jacob Cats (November 10, 1577, Brouwershaven (Zeeland) - September 12, 1660, the Hague) was a Dutch poet, humorist, jurist and politician. Having lost his mother at an early age, and being adopted with his three brothers by an uncle, Cats was sent to school at Zierikzee. He then studied law at Leiden and at Orleans, and, returning to Holland, he settled at the Hague, where he began to practise as an advocate.

Morell was well-known in Germany for his unconventional, holistic and alternative treatments. Although Morell had medical training and was licensed as a general practitioner in Germany long before he met Hitler, following World War II there were investigations into his practice along with interrogation by the Allies and he came to be widely regarded as a quack.

    John (Jean) Misaubin was an 18th century Huguenot French and British physician and "quack." He was born in Mussidan, in the Dordogne in France. His father was a Protestant clergyman who later preached in the French Church in Spitalfields. He qualified as a medical doctor in Cahors. As a Huguenot, he later left France for London. There, he married Martha (Marthe) Angibaud in 1709.

  6. Isaac Swainson

    Isaac Swainson (1746 - 1812) was the son of John Swainson (d1750), yeoman, of High House, Hawkshead, Lancashire. He was famous for his botanical garden, which was largely funded from the profits of a herbal remedy for venereal disease, and a plant genus is named after him. For his commercial activities in the latter field, he has been called a "radical quack". He was a relative of William Swainson, the naturalist.
