    Yitzhak Cohen (born 2 December 1951) is an Israeli politician and Member of the Knesset for Shas. A former National Authority of Religious Services Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance, he is number two on Shas' list and currently a Minister without Portfolio in Ehud Olmert's government. Cohen is married, with ten children. He was born in Ashkelon, and has served on its city council for two and a half terms.

  5. Aryeh Deri

    Aryeh Deri (b. February 17, 1959 in Meknes, Morocco) is the former leader of Israel's Shas Party. He was replaced by Eli Yishai after Deri was jailed for corruption, having been found guilty of taking $155,000 in bribes while serving as Interior Minister, and sentenced to three years at the Maasiyahu Prison. He was released after less than two years had been served.

  7. Shlomo Amar

    Rabbi Shlomo Amar (born in 1948) has been the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel since his appointment in 2003. His colleague is Rabbi Yona Metzger, the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel. Rabbi Amar was born in Casablanca, Morocco and immigrated to Israel in 1962 at age 14. He is a close associate of the spiritual leader of the Shas Party and former Sephardi Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

  8. Nissim Ze'Ev

    Nissim Zeev (in Hebrew נסים זאב is an Israeli politician and a Shas member of the Knesset. Born in Jerusalem, he was Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, from 1983 through 1998. He has been a Member of Knesset since 1999. In June 2007 he spurred controversy by comparing homosexuals to drug addicts and suggesting that rehabiliation centers be set up for them throughout Israel.

    Ariel Atias (born 13 November 1970) is an Israeli politician. First elected to the Knesset on Shas' list in 2006, he is the Minister of Communications in the current government. He is the father of four and currently resides in Jerusalem.

His primary work was "Chiddushei Rabbeinu Chaim", a volume of insights on Maimonides' Mishnah Torah which often would suggest novel understandings of the Talmud as well.

  12. Ofer Hugi

    Ofer Hugi (born 17 April, 1964) is an Israeli politician who represented Shas in the Knesset from 1999 to 2003 and again for just under a month in 2006. In 2007 he was sent to prison for various charges related to forgery and fraud.

  13. Simchah Bunim Alter

    Simchah Bunim Alter (or Simcha Binim) (April 6 1898 - August 6 1992), who was also known by the title of his Torah work/s as the "Lev Simcha", was an Orthodox Judaism rabbi. He led the Hasidic Judaism Ger (Hasidic dynasty) as its rebbe ("spiritual leader") from 1977 to 1992 in Israel. He succeeded his brother Rabbi Yisrael Alter, becoming the fifth rebbe of Ger, as his brother had no heirs of his own.
