  1. Safiye Sultan

    Safiye Sultan was the wife of Ottoman Sultan Murad III and mother of Sultan Mehmed III. It is believed she was of Albanian descent. Her name "Safiye" means "the pure one". She was born about 1550, but her date of death is uncertain between 1605 and 1619. She was captured by corsairs and presented to the Ottoman harem sometimes in the 1560s, and became chief wife of the sultan after the death of her stephmother in 1574.

  2. Adile Sultan

    Adile Sultan (عادله سلطان), daughter of Sultan Mahmud II and sister of the Sultans Abdulmecid and Abdulaziz, was an Ottoman princess, a renowned female Diwan poet and a philanthropist. She was born as daughter of Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II (1785-1839) and his wife Zernigar Sultan in 1825 in Constantinople (İstanbul today). Adile Sultan lost her mother at a very young age, and was raised by Nevfidan Kadın, the chief woman in the palace.

  3. Haji Sultan

    Haji Sultan is an alleged Taliban leader, captured on June 5 2006. Sultan was captured with another Taliban leader, Mullah Mohamed Rahim. Sultan was on a U.S. wanted list. And Afghani authorities handed him over to them. The Washington Post says he was captured on June 2 2005. Sultan is described as a bombmaker, who had led several attacks.

  4. Abida Sultan

    Abida Sultan was the eldest daughter of Hamidullah Khan, the last "nawab" of the Bhopal state. Abida Sultan was the presumptive heiress of the Bhopal throne. However, she gave up her right to the throne and migrated to the newly formed Pakistan in 1950. In Pakistan, she joined the foreign service. Therefore, the Government of India excluded her from the succession and her younger sister Sajida succeeded her instead.

  6. Tipu Sultan

    Tippu Sultan, also known as the Tiger of Mysore (November 20, 1750, Devanahalli – May 4, 1799, Srirangapattana), was the first son of Haidar Ali by his second wife, Fatima or Fakhr-un-nissa. He was the "de facto" ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore from the time of his father's death in 1782 until his own demise in 1799. Tippu Sultan was a learned man and an able soldier.     Donald Sultan (born 1951 in Asheville, North Carolina) is an American artist, known for large-scale still life paintings executed with bold contrasts of bright color and deep black forms, tight, nearly abstract compositions, and unorthodox media.   9. Grete Sultan

    Grete Sultan (June 21 1906 in Berlin - June 26 2005 in New York City), was a concert pianist. Born into a musical family, she studied piano from an early age with American pianist Richard Buhlig, and later with Leonid Kreutzer, and Edwin Fischer. In 1933, after the National Socialists came to power, she was, as all Jews, banned from playing in public and could only appear in concerts of the "Juedischer Kulturbund" (Jewish Culture Association).

    Amet-Han Sultan (25 October 1920, Alupka, Crimea - 1 February 1971) was a Crimean Tatar fighter and test pilot. During World War II, he participated in 150 air combats with 30 enemy planes downed individually and 19 in group. After World War II, he became a test pilot.

  17. Daniel Isom Sultan

    General Daniel Isom Sultan, (December 9, 1885 - January 14, 1947) was born Oxford, Mississippi and died in Washington, D.C., while on active duty. He graduated from West Point in 1907 and was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers. On July 8, 1939 he was promoted to Brigadier General.     Selim III (December 24, 1761 - July 28/29, 1808) was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1789 to 1807. He was a son of Mustafa III (1757-74) and succeeded his uncle Abdülhamid I (1774-89). The talents and energy with which Selim III was endowed had endeared him to the people, and great hopes were founded on his accession.   32. Ahmed I

    Ahmed I was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1603 until his death.
