    The Guildford pub bombing occurred on 5 October, 1974. The Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) planted a bomb in the "Horse and Groom" pub on North Street in Guildford which killed five people and injured 65. An IRA active service unit, assumed by many to be the Balcombe Street Gang, manufactured two 6 pound gelignite bombs in London. One was placed in the "Horse and Groom" and the other in the "Seven Stars" pub nearby.

    Woman Police Constable (WPC) Yvonne Joyce Fletcher (1959-17 April 1984) was a British police officer who was shot and killed in London's St James's Square during a protest outside the Libyan embassy. The shooting resulted in a police siege of the embassy which lasted for eleven days, and the breakdown of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Libya. Her death was the third murder or manslaughter of a British policewoman on duty, only 18 months after the first.

    The Milltown Cemetery attack was a gun and grenade attack in Belfast's Milltown Cemetery by Ulster Defence Association member Michael Stone, during the funerals of three Provisional IRA members. Three people died in the incident and over sixty were injured.
