Norview High School’s Tommy Smigiel was named 2008 Virginia Teacher of the Year on Friday, making him the first Norfolk teacher to receive that honor in at least 40 years. Being married has been the best way that God has helped me see what needs to change in me in order to be more like who He intended for me to be like. I've never been more challenged in my life to really be selfless and to put others before me...i.e: my husband. I love him! Marriage is a beautiful, exciting, rewarding and challenging journey.

After four years in public schools, I made the switch to private and I'm just finishing up my first year at a wonderful, Christian school. It is amazing to work in a school where I can talk about Christ with my kids and faculty. Although we have no kids yet, our puppy Getty has served as one for us for a little over a year now. At 70 lbs, she has grown much faster than a normal child!!

There are aspects I could do without, but I suppose that's the case with any job. One thing I can say about myself is that I appreciate all that the Lord is teaching me at work during the hard times. Not much to say...in a content relationship...I'm doing the one thing I've always wanted to do-teach. I love it and couldn't see myself doing anything else.
